VFTB 198: New Age, Old Lie

Enlightenment in natureIT’S IRONIC that the best offer the New Age movement can make is a recycled version of the lie from Genesis 3: Ye shall be as gods. The hidden tragedy is that oneness with the divine — enlightenment — is basically the realization that your individuality is an illusion; that you are, basically, an indistinct part of an infinite whole.

James Fox spent five years learning and teaching yoga and other Eastern practices taught by the likes of Deepak Chopra and Eckhart Tolle, named two of the most spiritually influential people on Earth by Watkins Books, a shop in London that has specialized in esoteric (read: occult) titles for over 120 years. James, who founded the Facebook group 33 Degrees of Deception, rejected their influence for the saving grace of Jesus Christ. He explains why, and why he’s concerned about the spread of Eastern mysticism in the American evangelical church.
