VFTB Live: Planet X — The Sign of the Son of Man

Planet X, The Sign of the Son of Man and the End of the AgeX MARKS the end of the age.

In the new book Planet X, The Sign of the Son of Man, and the End of the Age, Doug Elwell, publisher of the online journal Mysterious World, presents compelling evidence that the most important events in human history — creation, the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, and his Second Coming — are linked by the regular appearance of a mysterious body dubbed “Planet X” by astronomers who’ve been searching for it for more than a century.

  1. I can’t tell if Doug Elwell believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who has come in the flesh to save him (like us) from his sins and the enemy.

It sounds like he thinks the Bible is a really good ancient history that recorded reasonable predictions about the orbit of a possible mystery planet, which he then speculates is going to dislodge this planet to take it’s place.

He’s happy to trust the astronomy of the Sumerians(?), as “almost good as gold,” Does he believe the Bible is accurate concerning Christ and the Father?

It’s hard to tell form the web.

  2. Author

Based on our conversations, I believe Doug is a Christian in the true sense of the word.

  3. Thank you Derek! That works as a bona fide for me.

  4. Okay, so he thinks that we are radical because we believe in the 6-day creation. And his argument is that since the sun was created on the fourth day then all the previous day had no solar cycle to be 24 hours a piece. What what about the overwhelming evidence of a young earth, both from doctrine and creation scientists.

From the Bible we seen in Exodus 20:11 “For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it”. The Hebrew word for “made” hear is (and forgive I’m going to give “English” spelling) aw-saw’ which means to do or make, exactly the way it was translated. So it literally says that in six days he made EVERYTHING.

According to Strong’s: baw-raw’ means both A primitive root; (absolutely) to create ; (qualified) to cut down (a wood). So there is no reason the English translation is not correct.

And the creation scientist stuff can easily be found at the well known site advertised by VFTB, Creation Ministries International at http://www.creation.com

I find a lot of what he had to say very interesting, but I just can’t buy the gap theory. Personally I think Exodus puts that to rest all by itself. Anyway, hopefully I have rambled to much, just thought I would give my two cents. Sorry I couldn’t make it to the chat room.

  5. The Biblical reasons to reject the gap theory and similar ideas: creation.com/the-gap-theoryan-idea-with-holes

  6. Thanks for your feedback! This is why we tackle these topics: to encourage thought. I asked about the gap theory because it seemed that it was an inescapable conclusion if you accept his theory, although it doesn’t necessarily mean billions of years elapsed between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2.

I’m not entirely sold on his theory, but it is intriguing. And I haven’t finished the book yet, either.

  7. Good points all. I talked with a few of my friends that speak Hebrew. They told me that according to the Hebrew language and Rabbinical teaching, בּרא, which is John’s baw-raw, means to create something out of nothing. It is a verb that is primarily used by YHVH, as he is really the only one that can truly create something physical out of nothing. Alternately, the word עשׂה, aw-saw, is used for when man makes things, or God made man out of the dust of the Earth. This is the to create something from something else. Therefore, if God was going to create the Earth out of something that was already there he would have used the word עשׂה(aw-saw), not the word בּרא(baw-raw). I hope this was not too technical and helps.

Derek, I did like the interview as it brought up some good connections. From the interview, I think that Mr. Elwell is looking backwards through his magnifying glass. I would say the bible should be looked at as the primary source to clarify the extra biblical histories, not that the extra biblical histories are the primary sources. Currently, I will withhold my conclusion until I read his book and I have a better understanding of his point of view. Thank you for another superbly professional interview.

  8. This man is neither a scientist nor a Christian – he is an occultist, with a barely-dispuised hatred of ‘fundamentalists’. He plays the same games that the likes of Tsarion and Maxwell play, attempting to de-spiritualise God’s message.

  9. Away from the question of the date of creation, and back to the issue of “Planet X” — it seems like something he was saying was contradictory: Doug says that Planet X comes around at a minimum of every 2 thousand years (at one point he said it might even be every 1,000 years) and “EVERYTIME it does” (his emphasis)- God appears. But he only gives 3 incidences: creation, the Nativity, and the 2nd Coming . . . so what about all the other appearances? And aren’t we overdue?

  10. Kathleen, I think you make a good point. I think he also counted the appearance to Abraham before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, but what about Moses at Mount Sinai, Moses in Egypt, the Israelites during their desert wanderings, Joshua at the battle of Jericho, any of the temple appearances, the fiery furnace incident, the appearance to Daniel. All of these are either direct appearances of God or thought of as pre-incarnate appearances of Jesus. I can see Mr. Elwell trying to rationalize the appearance of Planet-X to coincide with some of them, but definitely not with all of them. As Kathleen pointed out, if you look at the timing of these various events they do not fall into Mr. Elwell’s 2000 or 1000 year pattern. Again, I think he is just looking the wrong way through his biblical lens. It is amazing how clear history, biology, astronomy, physics, art, etc…become if you just use the lens of the bible as your primary source authority. Again, very nice catch Kathleen.

  11. Some pretty harsh words being written about a man that you do not know, just saying…..

I’ve never met the author but am carefully reading his book and am about 3/4 of the way through. I am not required to believe everything that he presents but I am required not to judge his state of salvation.

From what little I’ve heard and read, he does seem to be a true Christian trying to delve into a subject that many find difficult to comprehend. He presents a very well researched book that does bring to light some pretty amazing theories. It is up to each individual to study the Word of God and seek things out, being good Bereans.

Thank you, Mr. Elwell, for presenting some very timely information on some very difficult topics. You have forced me to delve deeper into God’s written Word and to look toward possible answers to some questions I’ve had during my 35 year walk with Jesus regarding the end of days. You approach to looking at things on a much broader scale reminds us all not to limit God to a small box that WE find comfortable.

Many points that you make seem to fit in very well with my recent studies on comet Elenin and what may be coming along with it. We should all be fully aware of Jesus’ words about signs in the heavens and we should be looking up for I truly believe that our redeemer draweth nigh – Praise Jesus!!!
